PROJECTS

  • Semantic Browser (The project for my master thesis)
Semantic Browser is a tool that enables the users to traverse among the semantically connected documents easily. The documents are connected by using the relationships, such as "causes", "adjacent to", "produces"...etc. Implemented by using HTML, DHTML, Ant & Tomcat, AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript And XML), JSP (Java Server Page), Java Script, XMLDOM, DHTML, Ontology in RDF format, Lucene indexing (Pure Java code), Eclipse WTP (All-In-One) for Java coding.
    Details: http://www.bilalgonen.com/courses/thesis
  • SemDis (Semantic Discovery: Discovering Complex Relationships in Semantic Web)
A second generation of the Web, "Semantic Web", will be built by adding semantic annotations that software can understand and from which humans can benefit. Modeling, discovering and reasoning about complex relationships on the Semantic Web will enable this vision.
  • Bioinformatics in distributed database
Created a distributed mini database functionality. The communication between the client and server is through a named pipe. Built with MS Visual Studio 6.
  • Link Annotation Project website
Annotate webpage & its links with concepts. This project presents new idea of propagating concept from a webpage to the links pointing to that page or from the links to the webpage.
  • Distance Learning, Senior Project (B.S. in Computer Engineering, Sakarya University, Turkey)

RESEARCH STATEMENT AND CAREER GOALS

Long-term goal: Online configuration of large-scale systems require parameter optimization to be done within a limited amount of time. This time limit is even more pressing when configuration is needed as a recovery response to a failure in the system. To quickly configure such systems in an online manner, Our long-term goal is to develop a Trans-Algorithmic Search (TAS) framework which leverages multiple optimization search algorithms in an iterative manner.

My current aim in my research is to apply this Trans-Algorithmic Search (TAS) framework to NS-2 computer network simulator to demonstrate that our TAS framework improves the overall performance of the network by changing the link costs, hence re-routing the flows based on OSPF intra-domain algorithm.

Career Goals: I plan to apply for postdoc positions upon completion of Ph. D. After the postdoc, I will apply for tenure track positions at research/teaching Ph D. I expect to finish Ph D by August, 2010.
